SMS Consent For Invoice Reminders
Last updated: 2026-06-19
Duefy SMS reminders are transactional invoice and payment reminders. They are sent only for clients whose phone number has been added to the client record and only when SMS reminders are enabled by the Duefy account holder.
Before a Duefy customer adds a client's phone number for SMS reminders, the customer must have clear permission from that client to receive invoice and payment reminder texts. SMS consent must be specific to payment reminders and cannot be bundled with unrelated marketing consent.
Verbal Consent Script
When collecting consent by phone or in person, use wording like this:
Can we send you text messages about invoices and payment reminders from [business name]? Messages may include invoice numbers, amounts due, due dates, and secure payment links. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out at any time.
If the client says yes, the Duefy customer may add the client's phone number in international format and enable SMS reminders for the relevant reminder steps.
Web Or Paper Consent
If collecting consent on a form, the checkbox should be separate from other agreements and unchecked by default. Suggested wording:
I agree to receive text messages from [business name] about invoices and payment reminders. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out.
The business using Duefy is responsible for keeping proof of consent and for honoring opt-out requests. Clients who do not consent to SMS can still receive email reminders.
